Acid Dyes

USE FOR: Immersion (tub) dyeing and direct application techniques when followed by steaming for colour fixation.

USE ON: Protein fibers such as wool and silk, as well as hair (fur), feathers, and nylon. Some shades may also be used on leather, particularly pre-metalized colours.

Dyer Depot acid dyes are concentrated powdered dyes formulated for use on protein fibers and nylon. They are economical, easy to measure, and designed to deliver reliable, repeatable results when used with proper heat and acidity.

These dyes can be used in many creative approaches, including solid immersion dyeing, low-water methods, microwaving, baking, printing, spraying, painting, and steaming. Different fibers, heat levels, and application methods will produce different effects, making sampling an important part of the process.

Colour results may vary between different materials, and appearance can differ across screens and lighting conditions. When accuracy matters, testing is strongly recommended. For results closest to our colour charts, most shades perform well at 1.5–2% on weight of goods (OWG) for immersion dyeing. Colours marked with an asterisk (*) are best used at 4% OWG. Adjust usage to achieve the depth of shade you prefer. Finished items dyed with acid dyes should be washed in cold water.

Reactive Dyes

USE FOR: Immersion (tub) dyeing and controlled dyeing processes requiring fixation.
USE ON: Primarily wool and other protein fibers. Suitable for loose fiber, sliver, yarn, fabric, and finished garments.

Dyer Depot reactive dyes for wool are high-performance dyes designed to form a strong bond with protein fibers, producing deep, bright shades with excellent durability. These dyes are known for their strong fixation, good exhaustion, and reliable repeatability, making them well suited for both solid colours and carefully controlled colour work.

This dye range is balanced for compatibility and even dyeing, including trichromatic combinations across a wide range of depths. Colours build cleanly and predictably, and the system performs well on different fiber forms, from yarn skeins to finished garments. Results depend on dye concentration, pH, temperature, and process control, so sampling is strongly recommended when colour accuracy matters.

Wool and fiber type, water chemistry, and technique can influence final results. For consistent outcomes, follow the recommended dyeing parameters and adjust concentration based on the depth of shade desired. Finished items should be rinsed and washed according to proper after-treatment guidelines for reactive dyes on wool.
